Windigo Island A Novel Cork O'Connor Mystery Series William Kent Krueger Books
Do NOT come to this book expecting another great crime story swirling around Cork. In fact, if I weren't so OCD about reading an entire series, I would say skip it entirely. The plot is merely a bare framework on which to hang a skreed against the trafficking of young girls off Indian reservations, emphasizing the failures of the white man to truly care for the needs of said Indians. I have no arguments with the facts presented, but what I came looking for was another great Cork O'Connor mystery, not an excuse to rant in between illogical, drawn-out and undeveloped ideas. I say, read at your own risk!Tags : Amazon.com: Windigo Island: A Novel (Cork O'Connor Mystery Series) (9781476749235): William Kent Krueger: Books,William Kent Krueger,Windigo Island: A Novel (Cork O'Connor Mystery Series),Atria Books,147674923X,Mystery & Detective - General,Thrillers - Suspense,Mystery fiction.,O'Connor, Cork (Fictional character);Fiction.,Private investigators;Fiction.,AMERICAN MYSTERY & SUSPENSE FICTION,Crime & mystery,FICTION Mystery & Detective General,FICTION Thrillers Crime,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,Fiction,Fiction - Mystery Detective,Fiction-Mystery & Detective,FictionLiterary,FictionThrillers - Suspense,GENERAL,General Adult,Literary,Minnesota,Monograph Series, any,Mystery fiction,MysterySuspense,Private investigators,United States,ordinary grace;new york times bestseller; Ojibwe; sex trafficking; Minnoestoa wilderness; nothern minnosota; well written; kindle; mysteries set in minnesota; detective books for adults; native american mythology; mysteries and thrillers; mystery series writers; native american; reservations; bad bluff; lake superior; murder mystery; mystery series books; great mystery books; best detective series; willaim kent krueger; stephen o connor; Cork's son; father son books; cork oconnor; northern minnesota; o conner; Corcoran; best detective novels; native american; detective novels; kindle mystery series; first cork o'conner novel; former Sheriff Cork O'Connor; small town sheriff mysteries; cork connor;william kent krooger;
Windigo Island A Novel Cork O'Connor Mystery Series William Kent Krueger Books Reviews
I loved every word in every book in this captivating series. I loved the rugged, pristine Great North Woods setting, the clever plot development, the fully-fleshed main characters with their flaws, decency and heart. I loved the glimpses of Ojibwe tradition and spirituality that touched my own soul in beautiful and unexpected ways. I loved the challenges Cork O'Connor faced as "ogichidaa" - the warrior, the one who stands between evil and his people. I eagerly await many more adventures of the O'Connor family from William Krueger's gifts of imagination and powerful prose.
I bought this and read it due to another reader. Who stated he writes so much like CJ Box. Well, I have to disagree. CJ Box is one of my favorites. This book was not even close. Didn't like the main character, and some of the others. The descriptions of the land are not similar.
Finally, fiction has to have some connection to reality, and therefor truth. This was also sadly lacking. My recommendation don't waste your time.
Kruger has another masterful book in the Cork O’Conner series. Kruger shifts his story telling focus from Cork to his daughter Jenny. The underlying theme of the book is trafficking of very young Indian girls. Kruger introduces a new character that may appear later in other books involved with Jenny. As usual with Kruger there is an ending that one would not suspect. A thrilling book that gives the reader more insight into modern day native Americans.
I loved Ordinary Grace, the first book by William Kent Krueger I had read. It was lyrical & multi-layered; the characters were nuanced and well developed and the themes profound. I eagerly sat down with this new book, ready to be transported again. What a disappointment! Wildly overwritten, it read more like a romance novel than something more substantive. The relationships among the characters were so predictable and trite. The one redeeming feature was an interesting and important plot premise-the sex-trafficking of young girls from Indian reservations and the underlying factors in their vulnerabilities. Otherwise, the reader's time would be better spent re-visiting Ordinary Grace.
I loved Krueger's books from the start and recommended them to friends, who subsequently got hooked. I grew up in Minnesota, an added attraction to me for this series. But THIS book was a huge disappointment! There is something very "off" about this book. The characters we've grown to love don't ring true. And adding Jenny to the team?!! Not a fit! Wrong, wrong, wrong. Please. Give us back the characters and the story line we love.
In the grand scheme of things, this was my least favorite book in this series. I was not able to enjoy the part Jenny played and this distracted from my enjoyment of this novel. So why am I giving it 4 stars? Simply put is was still a good read and illustrates what a fantastic series this has been that my least favorite still qualifies as a 4 star book. I am terribly excited for Manitou Canyon, which I have preordered for my kindle and will come early September.
This story was different from the previous in the series. Really got into the struggle of some Native American youth. I don’t recall ever hearing much about the youth issues in the past, being that different from normal kids growing up. Well done and still had the series theme and flavor throughout.
I have been working my way though the series, with 3 books remaining, to date. I have enjoyed them and believe reading them individually would be as entertaining as reading them as a series. Each book can stand alone.
I recommend this book and the series.
